I stalked a woman to prepare for Fall role, admits Jamie Dornan
Actors do a lot of unusual things to get into character and Jamie Dornan has revealed that he once followed a woman in London to prepare for his role in The Fall.
Dornan plays serial killer Paul Spector in the popular BBC drama, which has recently been commissioned for a third season.
The star admitted that he did his best to try to understand the character.
"In the first series, I did do a few things to try and get inside [Paul Spector's head] on the Tube in London," Jamie admitted.
"I followed a woman off the train one day to see what it felt like to pursue someone like that.
"I really kept my distance and I was aware, it was kind of half-hearted because I was going 'Is she going to notice?'"
However, Jamie didn't follow the woman for long as she walked through the streets of the English capital.
"She got off a few stops earlier then I was planning and I thought 'I'm going to have to commit to this,'" he said.
"I followed her around a few street corners and then I was like 'what are you doing?'
"It felt kind of exciting but I'm not proud of myself," he added.
This is not unusual for the Northern Irish actor as he previously visited a sex dungeon as part of his research for the role of Christian Grey in the recent Fifty Shades of Grey movie.
However, while he felt uncomfortable following the woman, the 32-year-old does believe that it helped him to understand his character.
"I do honestly think I learnt something from it because I obviously have never done something like that in my life so it was intriguing and interesting to enter that process of 'what are you following her for?' and 'what are you trying to find out?'," he said.
The dad-of-one admits that it is important for him to switch off after filming.
"It's not healthy to stay in the headspace of someone as evil as he is," he said.
The Northern Irish actor is currently in LA to promote the series which is filmed in Belfast.
We will next see Dornan in supernatural thriller The 9th Life of Louis Drax alongside Sarah Gadon and Aaron Paul.
