Louise Duffy has admitted she had "big shoes to fill" when she was chosen as the replacement for one of the country's most popular broadcasters, Tony Fenton.

Duffy (31) took over from the late radio legend last year as he battled cancer.

While the prospect of taking up the reins from the much-loved presenter would be daunting for many, the Today FM star said she tries to follow Fenton's example when presenting the afternoon slot.

"I've had such big shoes to fill with Tony," she told the Herald.

"Everyone is very supportive in Today FM and we kind of all just try to do what he would've done. What he would've done on his show is a brilliant template to follow for any of us."

Duffy previously presented the station's early morning slot for three years, but she's more than happy to have swapped her 5am to 7am shift for spending the afternoon on the radio.

"I love it there - it's a nice time to be on air because the chat is a bit lighter and people just want some good music," she said.

The presenter was surprised by her colleagues in the station when they presented her with a massive cake to celebrate her birthday on Wednesday.

"We had such a great day - the Today FM office is a really fun place to be and they were so good to me. I'm an old bird now," she joked.

Duffy, who is engaged to Kerry footballer Paul Galvin, will make the move from the airwaves to TV as she prepares to host TV3's coverage of the IFTA Awards with fellow Today FM star Eoghan Doherty.

Dress

While the fashionista was keeping tight-lipped on what she might wear to her wedding, she revealed she'll be supporting an Irish designer with her dress for Sunday's awards ceremony.

"I've Ingrid Hoey looking after me and she's just incredible - she's really taken some of the pressure off and it's great not to have to worry about getting an outfit sorted. I'll be wearing an Umit Kutluk dress," she said.

"I'm so excited for Sunday - it's my first time at the IFTAs.

"I've watched them before but this is my first time being in the middle of the excitement and I'm delighted I get to work with Eoghan."

Duffy recently revealed that she wasn't feeling stressed about planning her wedding to the fashion-forward sports star.

"I am so chilled out and laid back. I need a bomb under me now just to get going and organised, but we are getting there," she said.

"We are at the stage now where we have an idea of where we'd like to go.

"The idea of months and months of preparation is a little bit daunting and freaks me out, but once you get into it I'm sure it all falls into place."

While Duffy has been slow to get things organised, she has a few ideas in mind for her big day.

"I'd like to do it maybe late this year or early next year," she said.

"A winter wedding is nice, it gives everyone an excuse to come home and have a big party. The church is important to me and I would love it to be in the church where I did everything growing up.

"I'm dying to be married to Paul and I just want it to be a fun day and have the craic with our friends and family."
