Saturday September 27 2008
RTE'S hit teen show Aisling's Diary has been nominated for a prestigious award at Cannes.
The show, which has proved a huge hit with its teenage fanbase, has been nominated in the best multi screen format category.
The Irish mini series, which is broadcast on RTE2 over 40, three-minute episodes with an omnibus edition on Saturdays, also has a huge following online.
The innovative mini TV series encourages interaction from viewers via a Bebo page and the character's blog. This interactive element led to the nomination of the show at the awards.
The show has now been nominated for a C21 Format Awards at Cannes, as the best multi-screen format.
SUCCESSFUL
The production company behind the show, CR Entertainment, is the only Irish company to be nominated.
Aisling's Diary is loosely based on hit show Sofia's Diary, which has already proven successful for CR Entertainment in the UK. The new format of this show for teenagers attracted over 26 million views in the UK.
New Yorker Esther Di Maggio (24) plays the lead role of 16-year-old Aisling who moved to Ireland from Boston with her family.
The show follows her progress as she gets to grips with life in Ireland.
Hollywood Trials star Chris Newman plays Murp-hy, Aisling's love interest.
CR Entertainment is a Dun Laoghaire-based production company which has been experiencing huge success with its pioneering cross-platform strategies in the entertainment industry.
Founder of CR Entertainment Triona Campbell said that young audiences are proving much more difficult to reach through traditional media alone.
PLATFORM
"An entertainment product can no longer be created for only one platform," she said.
"It has to be created and distributed across a landscape of media that includes the internet, social networking websites, online games, virtual worlds, television and print."
The awards will be presented on October 14.
