Hector's 'sorry' to Miriam O'Callaghan over his on-air insult
Hector O hEochagain has apologised for comments he made about Miriam O'Callaghan on the Saturday Night Show, describing his outburst as "a moment of madness".
Host Brendan O'Connor asked him if he was showing a more serious side recently as opposed to the impression that he is an "extrovert".
"You don't leap around the place if you're on after the Nine O'Clock News on RTE One," Hector replied.
"You're either bloody Miriam O'Callaghan talking sh*te or another one trying to imitate Miriam O'Callaghan," he added.
Hector apologised yesterday forgoing on the rant.
"I don't know what happened me," he said. "There was a little man in my head.
"There's been a bit of a mountain out of a molehill about the comments I made. But I want to officially apologise to Miriam O'Callaghan for saying she talks sh*te.
"She far from talks sh*te. A lot of people tune in to Miriam and she's a great broadcaster."
Hector said that he didn't realise until afterwards that he had said something wrong. I want to apologise to Miriam because I met her on a few occasions and she's a good laugh.
"I regret what I said. It was a moment of mad TV. It was live TV, you say something wrong, so be it. But I apologise to Miriam," he told the Anton Savage Show on Today FM.
Deputy director general of RTE Kevin Bakhurst said the "door would always be open" to Hector.
"It's a shame, but I like Hector and he's going on to great new things, I'm sure." He could do something more with us in the future," he said.
