Getting to grips with hecklers: Comedian Jason Byrne takes class with Conor McGregor's coach
Comedian Jason Byrne got to grips with a beginner's class in Jiu Jitsu with Conor McGregor's Ultimate Fighting Championship coach John Kavanagh.
John encouraged the funnyman to visit his gym after he and a bunch of mixed martial arts fighters went to Jason's stand up gig at the Axis theatre in Ballymun on Wednesday night.
"John and the lads went to my gig in Ballymun, they were great craic and I even ended up with Paddy Holohan on my back at one point," Jason told the Herald.
"We worked out that John and I knew each other from when we were kids so he invited me down to the gym. I'd never done Jiu Jitsu in my life so I spent the afternoon in a head lock with John.
"You roll around basically hugging each other and when you want to get out you have to tap their leg or arm or otherwise they'll break your arm or something so I was tapping out every minute but it was very funny.
"They put a video as well which is hilarious and of course, I look like a donkey," he added.
The martial arts training was a nice break for Jason (43) who has had a busy few months doing stand up as well as filming TV shows.
