Comedian Joanne McNally reveals she isn't worried about filling Jennifer Maguire's shoes on Republic of Telly
Taking over from one of RTE2's top stars may be a daunting task for many, but not comedian Joanne McNally.
The Dublin stand-up (32) has been selected as Jennifer Maguire's replacement on Republic of Telly after she and Bernard O'Shea left the series to create spin off comedy Bridget and Eamonn.
While both women are known for their sense of humour, Joanne admitted fans shouldn't expect her to be anything like Jen on the show.
"I'm very different to her but there is no harm in that either. People say they are big shoes to fill and I know this but Jennifer is a size four and I'm a size seven so I think I'll be ok," she said.
The TV comic, who shot to fame earlier this year when she teamed up with Naked Camera star PJ Gallagher for his show Separated at Birth, is a newcomer to comedy circles and previously worked in public relations.
She has swapped her office job for the TV studio and Joanne told TV Now her co-presenter Kevin McGahern has made her feel right at home in her new role ahead of the show's return next week.
"I gigged with Kevin a couple of times. He's so lovely. The Republic of Telly is like starting school," she said.
"It's funny because I left a desk job to pursue a career in comedy and the first thing they showed me is my desk. So I've got a desk in RTE and I'm like, 'I'm never going to sit at that'."
