•Let's face it, we could all do with some cheering up given the dismal summer. And there's just a week left before the Vodafone Comedy Festival gets under way in Dublin. Invited guests will be heading to Iveagh Gardens on Thursday July 26 for the opening night as they enjoy some complimentary tipples along with some live entertainment. Reggie Watts, Alex Horen and MC David O'Doherty will take to the stage. Also on the bill are Tommy Tiernan, Ardal O'Hanlon, Michael Winslow and Jason Byrne.
•The same venue will host musical performers as Aiken Promotions lay on a trio of concerts, starting with Rufus Wainwright tonight. He'll be followed by iconic Celtic band The Waterboys who'll be entertaining attendees this Friday, with Lisa Hannigan there on Saturday night.
•The inaugural Kilkenny Fashion Week will take place this on October 10-13. The headline event will be a Catherine Condell-produced gala fashion event in the Lyrath Estate Hotel and featuring some of the city's top department stores and boutiques. Stylist Karen Morrissey will preside over a 'get the look' fashion workshop at Kilkenny Left Bank on Friday 12 October, and all profits will go towards local charities.
•Attention all fans of Hollywood funnyman Jack Black. The hirsute actor will return to Dublin for one night only this October to perform as his alter-ego Tenacious D on the Rize of the Fenix tour. The School Of Rock star and his musical partner Kyle Gass will coincide their tour with their eagerly-awaited third album, which was recorded over six years in a friend's garage with a budget of just €700. The pair will be joined at the O2 Dublin on October 20 by Dave Grohl.
