Winning Streak presenter Marty Whelan has revealed that he was urged to get into politics by several Irish parties.

Despite his love for politics, the game show host admitted he turned down the offers from Fianna Fail, Fine Gael and former party the Progressive Democrats because he just "couldn't do it".

"There were some conversations along the lines of 'have you thought of such and such?' or 'would you be interested?' and so on," the popular broadcaster told the RTE Guide.

"I have always been interested in politics and would have a political book on the go all the time. So I like politics - but I couldn't do it.

"I can't imagine being a politician. Not with a straight face," he added.
