Pat has 'time of his life' at Dirty Dancing

THE pink carpet was rolled out at the Grand Canal Theatre last night for the opening night of Dirty Dancing. And it was obviously ladies' choice for 'date night', judging by the plethora of well-known men in attendance being dragged there by their other halves.

RTE presenter Pat Kenny, there with wife Kathy, confessed to never having seen the original movie starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey, but he recently interviewed Swayze's widow Lisa Niemi. "I always thought it was one for the girls but now I'll see if it's one for the guys too," he said.

Also there was Joe Duffy, who insisted he hadn't seen the original blockbuster either. "I'm here because my wife June wanted to come," the Liveline host said. "I heard it's a great production and as a venue, you couldn't get any better."

RTE veteran and theatre lover Gay Byrne, who was there with his wife Kathleen Watkins and daughters Crona and Suzy, also revealed he was was looking forward to seeing Dirty Dancing for the first time.

Enjoying a family night out was PR queen Valerie Roe, who was there with her equally-glam sisters Patricia and Gillian Quinn.

The glamorous Pilates instructor explained how her other half was over in Britain this week so she decided to have a girls' night out.

Also spotted heading in to check out the opening night was Miriam Ahern with partner Terry McCoy, alongside Ray D'Arcy show personality Mairead Farrell.

Model Daniella Moyles was there with her gal pals, alongside Ireland AM's Anna Daly, Elaine Crowley, Karen Koster, former world boxing champ Bernard Dunne and 2fm's Ruth Scott.
