Former X Factor judge Tulisa Contostavlos has revealed how Niall Horan helped her get through her court ordeal.

The English singer and the One Direction superstar forged a close friendship since he shot to fame while she was a judge on X Factor.

The singer was speaking to ITV's Good Morning Britain in the wake of the collapse of a drugs trial after she was duped in a newspaper sting.

She said Niall Horan (inset) along with Saturdays star Rochelle Humes and her husband Marvin and former X Factor contestant Rylan Clark were the close-knit group of celebrity friends who supported her during her nightmare last year.

"I locked myself off a lot from the world so there only a few people that could contact me.

"Marvin and Rochelle are two people that really had my back throughout - and Niall [Horan] and Rylan."

She has spoken in the past of sharing a love of music with the Irish singer and regularly had jamming sessions with him.

"We have music in common. [Niall] is one of them people whenever he's around you're always laughing and or have something to talk about. He cheers you up.

"He's got a good energy about him so that's why so many people hang out with him," she previously said.

The London star, who had been filming a BBC documentary, Tulisa: The Price of Fame, over the past year, caused a huge response from One Direction fans last March when she posted a picture of herself in a spoof romantic pose with the Mullingar heartthrob on twitter.

The Londoner opened up yesterday about how she contemplated ending her own life due to the stress of the case.

"It just all got too much for me. I'm not going to sit here and want a pity party. It was a dark time, a very dark moment but I've got through it and I am here today," she said.
