Young trad band of ‘bowsies’ catch Christy Moore’s eye
They’ve toured the world playing trad music, and now young Irish band Moxie have caught the eye of music legend Christy Moore.
The five young men from Sligo and Limerick – brothers Ted and Jos Kelly, Cillian Doheny, Paddy Hazelton and Darren Roche – have been working with the folk singer after he spotted them at a gig in Whelans.
“He was in the front row and we couldn’t believe it when we saw him,” accordionist Jos told the Herald.
Christy recently admitted to being impressed by Moxie on his website.
The music veteran wrote: “This young band of bowsies has been making great sounds this past while. I like their sound, energy and dedication,” he said.
After touring Austria earlier this year and performing with the Ulster Orchestra for the BBC, the band play Dublin’s Sugar Club on Thursday.
