The Script will join top headline acts for Arthur's Day

THE Script and Emeli Sande are to be the headline acts at this year's Arthur's Day. Over 500 free music events are being planned in pubs across the country for September 26.

The line-up including James Vincent McMorrow, The Original Rudeboys, Manic Street Preachers and Janelle Monae, will turn up at a variety of venues on the night.

Arthur's Day, which is run by Guinness, will also be celebrated across Europe, Indonesia, Malaysia, The Caribbean and Australia.

James Vincent McMorrow said; "From the first day I travelled abroad to play, I've been struck by how people would immediately be intrigued, even before they'd heard a note, because of the heritage and lineage that comes with being an Irish artist."

More artists are expected to be announced in the coming weeks with tickets for selected events in Dublin, Limerick and Cork being sold through Ticketmaster for €10.

On the day, the Guinness Storehouse at St James's Gate Brewery will be transformed into a cultural hub. Commenting at the launch, Stephen O'Kelly, marketing director at Guinness said: "Whilst music will continue to be the cornerstone of the day, this year, our creative canvass will stretch well beyond music, embracing other aspects of our culture by showcasing talent and creativity from sport and food to the arts and design."
