An emotional Sharon Shannon paid tribute to her late partner Leo Healy last night as she collected a lifetime achievement award at the Meteor Music Ireland Awards.

The renowned musician was devastated last year when Leo, the love of her life passed away suddenly from a heart attack.

In her acceptance speech Sharon said: "I'd like to dedicate this to my late partner Leo Healy who's here in spirit with us tonight.

Watching

"I know he's watching over us and would want me to have a fantastic night," she added.

The celebrated musician was joined by her mother at the star-studded ceremony and laughed off the notion that she was too young to be collecting a life-time achievement award.

"I'm really honoured," she said. "Sure maybe they'll give me another one in a few years."

Sharon was just one of the big-name artists who attended the glitzy Awards bash featuring performances from Welsh rock group Stereophonics, Enrique Iglesias, Boyzone and The Blizzards at the RDS Simmonscourt last night.

Notably absent were chart-toppers The Script who scooped two awards for Best Irish Band and Best Irish album but were unable to make it as they were in New York.

Oscar winning musician, Glen Hansard, also had to back out of attending the event following the sad news that his father had passed away.

The Once singer was said to have been keen to attend the event previously.
