Go wild with cut-price festive trip to the zoo
With loads of free time over the Christmas holidays, a trip to the zoo is a must and, as it aims for its record millionth visitor before the year ends, Dublin Zoo has dropped its prices to encourage people through the gates.
Now we can all raise a glass to some of our finest writers
When visitors come to Dublin, the braver and more intrepid of them often embark on what is known as a 'literary pub crawl'. This usually involves a guided tour of up to a dozen pubs around the centre of the city, accompanied by stories of the great literary figures who drank in each one. The stories are no doubt embellished slightly as each year goes by.

Dublin Theatre Festival
CALLING all theatre lovers -- the 54th annual Ulster Bank Dublin Theatre Festival is set to take place over 18 days, starting from September 29.
The review: Jon Bon Jovi
"This ain't no television show," says Jon Bon Jovi, he of the marching band jacket-wearing variety. "Get out of your seats!" he exclaims. Jeez Jon, no need to shout -- we're up, we're up. But then that's what you're good at, I suppose -- shouting and that. Excuse me? A bit harsh, you say? Well, you could hardly call it singing now, Jon.
First night: Erasure
Vince Clarke has it easy. Not like that Andy Bell character. Indeed, all Clarke needs to do is show up, stand there, and press some buttons. Somewhere along the way, he might even strum a few chords on the guitar -- play a little keyboard, perhaps.
Chris Wasser: Verging on the ridiculous...but strangely enjoyable
Butchers bad, bakers good -- that's the theme and she's sticking with it.
First Night: Robert Plant
A WARM cup of tea and some polite words for his followers -- just some of the makings of a world famous rock star, right?
First Night: Lady Gaga
I HAVE a theory about this Lady Gaga character. Or, Stefani, as her mother would call her. It's pretty believable, too: the girl ain't human.
First Night: The Butcher Babes
It was all "a piece of cake", really. Or so says the bloody head of a young African man who's just been brutally murdered in front of his Irish girlfriend.
