Penny Dreadful stuntwoman happy to roll with the punches
She's gone from being an actress on shows such as The Clinic to jumping on Josh Hartnett's back as a stunt performer in Penny Dreadful.
Portmarnock native Orlaith Doherty (29) spends her days creating stunts on TV shows and films such as RTE's 1916 drama Rebellion.
"I love being a stunt double because it's a performance as well, so really I'm getting the best of both worlds," she told the Herald.
"At the moment I'm working on Rebellion, which has a lot of shooting scenes.
"I help set up the scenes and make sure people fall properly when they've been 'shot'. It's a really cool production - the soldiers in the show are actually ex-army guys," she added.
She also worked on a crash scene on Pierce Brosnan's upcoming film IT.
"There was a lot of preparation for IT because it has an intense car-crash scene."
But she enjoyed working with the former 007. "Pierce was just lovely, he always has fans looking for pictures and a chat, but he has so much time for everyone."
One of her favourite jobs was the fight scene in Penny Dreadful with Josh Hartnett.
"I played a supernatural woman who attacks Josh's character so there was a full fight scene," she said.
"For that I was a stunt performer as I was playing the character which was brilliant. In those jobs, you're dealing with big actors so there's no room for error.
"I had these extremely long nails on and I was jumping on his back while trying not to dig the nails in and stay in character," she added.
