Love/Hate star Ruth Negga lands lead role in US movie
It's been years since she first came to the attention of Irish audiences as Rosie in Love/Hate, and now it appears that Ruth Negga's star is fast rising Stateside as she lands a role in a new film.
The actress (32) has been cast in US flick Loving, which will be directed by Jeff Nichols.
Ruth will take on the lead role in the film, which is based on an American civil rights case, playing Mildred Loving.
The movie will tell the story of how the black woman and her white husband Richard were jailed in Virginia after they wed in the 60s, because interracial marriages were illegal at the time.
As a result of the case, the law was deemed unconstitutional and race-based marriage restrictions were abolished in the country.
Due to start filming in September, the film will also star Australian actor Joel Edgerton.
It was recently revealed that the actress, whose parents are Irish and Ethiopian, had also been cast in the lead female role in a US TV pilot called Preacher, which is based on a comic book of the same name.
The show, which is being produced by Hollywood actor Seth Rogan, will see Ruth act alongside her boyfriend Dominic Cooper. The famous pair have been together since they first met playing lovers in the play Phedre in London in 2009.
However, the notoriously private pair only confirmed their romance the following year when they were pictured kissing on an Italian beach.
