Like father, like son - Liam Neeson's boy to play Michael Collins
Liam Neeson's son is set to follow in his footsteps after being cast as Michael Collins in a star-studded historical film.
Micheal Neeson, the Oscar-nominated actor's eldest son, will play Collins in RTE's 1916 movie The Rising.
Taken star Liam famously immortalised the Irish revolutionary in Neil Jordan's film Michael Collins almost two decades ago.
It will be Micheal's first major acting role, and he will join a host of high-profile actors including The Fall star Colin Morgan as Sean Mac Diarmada and Braveheart's David O'Hara as James Connolly.
Other stars from Irish acting dynasties will appear in The Rising.
Brendan Gleeson's son Brian has landed a role, as has his Love/Hate co-star Charlie Murphy.
Micheal's mother Natasha Richardson, who died after a 2009 skiing accident, was also a successful actress.
While a passion for film clearly runs in the family, Micheal has previously stayed away from the screen and is the curator of a fashion art gallery in London.
The 20-year-old recently revealed that his famous father had tried to convince him not to go into acting.
"Dad was like, 'Please become a carpenter or something'," he said. "On my mum's side I was encouraged to do whatever I wanted."
Despite his father's advice, Micheal said a move into acting was inevitable.
"My inner actor is in there lingering," he said.
