HE'S worked with stars like Matt Damon and Kiera Knightly but Domhnall Gleeson has admitted that even he got nervous when he met Harrison Ford for the first time.

Mystery surrounds the role played by Gleeson (31), in Star Wars: The Force Awakens which is due out this Christmas.

He's sworn to secrecy about it and no photographs of his character - which remains publicly unnamed - have been released.

His co-star Ford's part is less secret. He's returning as inter-galactic rogue Han Solo whose appearance as the character - after 30 years - in the recently released trailer saw tears from some of the more devoted Star Wars fans.

Gleeson said he didn't have the same reaction when he saw Ford appear with his on-screen side-kick Chewbacca.

"I found it more joyous than that ... I thought it was really great. It did kind of get the heart pumping and… nostalgia and all the rest of it," he said.

He did however, admit to MTV that he had a certain amount of nerves before he met Ford when the cast first read the script with director JJ Abrams. But he said it was because he was a fan of another of the 72-year-old actor's onscreen creations.

"It sounds silly, but when I was a kid, more than Star Wars even, Indiana Jones was the thing.

"Meeting Harrison Ford was … everyone was just really nice, but that was one of those things where you make sure your voice doesn't go high when you say 'hello'," Domhnall added.

Domhnall joins returning cast members Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) and Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) for the highly-anticipated sci-fi movie which was part-filmed at Kerry's Skellig Michael.
