They've already proved to be a successful pairing and now actor Domhnall Gleeson and director Lenny Abrahamson are to work on another movie together.

Star Wars actor Domhnall (32) and fellow Dubliner Lenny (48) previously worked together on the 2014 comedy drama Frank.

Now they're teaming up for Abrahamson's The Little Stranger.

The movie is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Sarah Waters, and tells the story of a doctor tormented by ghosts as he cares for an elderly patient in a run-down house in post-war Britain.

With screenwriter Lucinda Coxon behind the script, Gleeson will play the lead character Dr Faraday.

Industry site IndieWire reports that production on the film will begin next summer.

It's been a busy year for both Gleeson and Abrahamson, with Domhnall in both Star Wars and the Jim Sheridan-directed Brooklyn, which will hit cinemas later this year.

Abrahamson has also seen his profile rise considerably lately after his film Room clinched the prestigious People's Choice award at the Toronto International Film Festival this month.

Multi-award winning movies The King's Speech, Slumdog Millionaire and 12 Years a Slave are among the past winners of the prize.

Gong

The gong is considered a good indication of Oscar frontrunners as for the past seven years the winner has been nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards.

Based on a novel by Dublin writer Emma Donoghue, Room is about a mother and son held captive for years.
