Alien tops the list of scariest film monsters
It first appeared on screen almost 40 years ago, but Alien has come top of a list of infamous movie monsters.
The creature, which burst out of John Hurt's chest in the 1979 Alien film before appearing in sequels, has been named the most frightening creation in film history.
Fleshless foes the skeleton army from Jason And The Argonauts (1963) take second place and The Thing from the 1982 sci-fi horror film of the same name is third.
Only two relatively recent creations - phantom species the dementors from the Harry Potter movies and Pale Man, which feeds on children and fairies, from Pan's Labyrinth (2006) make the top 10.
Nightmare On Elm Street's serial killer Freddy Krueger (1984) and the shark from Jaws (1975) complete the top five in the Radio Times poll.
Vampire Count Dracula (1931), Godzilla (1954) and killer doll Chucky from Child's Play (1988) are also in the top 10.
Jabba the Hutt from the Star Wars movies, The Fly, The Terminator and the Tyrannosaurus rex from Jurassic Park are other scary monsters to feature on the list.
