An Irish DJ who turned his hand to acting after an interview with an American director led to a film role, has completed a major Hollywood movie.

Sean McCarthy from Dublin met Tamar Simon Hoffs when he interviewed her a few years ago, and the brief encounter has led to his first major film role.

"I was presenting my own radio show on Dublin's Country Mix 106.8 FM in Dublin when I met Tamar. She's such a force to be reckoned with, considering she is now in her 70s.

"I fell right under her spell and I was thrilled to interview her about her film Red Roses and Petrol, which was having a special screening at the Galway Film Fleadh.

"Tammy is the head of a very creative household. Her daughter Susanna Hoffs is the world-renowned singer of course, and sure didn't The Bangles invent girl power," he joked.

As a result of the first brief meeting, McCarthy is now part of an up-and-coming film Pound of Flesh, written and directed by Tamar.

"I've been around film sets for years, and jumping on and off stages, but I was usually there to interview someone as a radio broadcaster and journalist.

"The late Richard Harris once said to me of that illusive big break: "When your chance comes, you'll know it to be such.

"So when Tamar offered me the part of John Anders in her new movie, Pound Of Flesh, I knew I was being invited to be a part of something very special."

The film has just wrapped up its shoot in the greater Los Angeles area, with quite the buzz surrounding its production.

"And to think that I've also just become the radio voice on commercials airing in Ireland for Cork Airport," he said.

Role

"I play an uneasy kind of character named John Anders, a university professor who is up to more than just a few lectures!" said Sean.

"I share this one scene with Taryn Southern in the film which I was very excited about doing. She is a stunning beauty with true talent. I just hope my Mam and Dad don't get a bit of a shock when they see what my character is up to."
