We toasted our 19th with water -- Jedward

JEDWARD may have enjoyed massive celebrations over the weekend for their 19th birthday -- but the Herald can reveal John and Edward have religiously stuck to their alcohol ban.

Although the champagne corks were popping backstage at Fountain Studios as the pair popped in to appear on the Xtra Factor, they turned their noses up at all the complimentary booze.

The clean-living pair chomped down on bowls of fruit and bottled water as they mingled with all their X Factor pals.

"Drinking's just not our thing and never will be -- we can't stand it," John explained. "We're not into it at all, we don't need alcohol to have a good time."

And the Lucan twins also admitted that they got a little carried away after splashing out more than €23,000 on celebrity memorabilia.

They stayed up late bidding on a Chinese auction site as they snapped up some eclectic items including bedsheets belonging to the late Michael Jackson as well as a suit worn by Britney Spears.

"We've got a signed, limited-edition Michael Jackson doll and a signed bedsheet of his also signed by Macaulay Culkin. We also bought some outfits from Batman, like The Riddler's, and some clown thing," he said.

"But we were just clicking away and we weren't really paying attention to how much everything was and then there was tax to pay on top of all that, which we hadn't realised at the time." The pair plan to use some of the new outfits on tour, especially the outfit worn by Spears in a Pepsi commercial.

The twins will be jetting back to Ireland this weekend to continue their sell-out Planet Jedward tour, with two dates at Killarney's INEC and in Castlebar's Royal Theatre. Their UK tour starts in Glasgow on November 8 with a string of dates ending in London on November 29.
