Bono is getting an extension. The singer is extending his Killiney pile to include a new conservatory and terrace.
The U2 frontman, along with his wife Ali, have applied under the less well known name of Mr and Mrs Hewson to Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council for the extension.
The couple have carried out a lot of work on their beautiful Temple Hill property on Vico Road, in Killiney.
The latest renovation will include the removal of the roof of the main 19th century house to replace it with a 130sqm, single-storey structure to provide a second floor extension and new roof terraces. Six years ago the Hewsons secured a three-story extension despite objections from An Taisce.
Heritage
Bono's bandmate Adam Clayton is also looking to extend his rock star pad in Rathfarnham.
The Georgian mansion, Danesmoate, on Kellystown Road, is up for another bout of building alterations. Clayton has carried out a raft of renovations on the protected house since buying it for just €380,000 in 1987.
The band had used the house as their base to record The Joshua Tree.
This time round, he wants to make internal modifications and alterations to the external steps and terraces of the protected heritage home. - JANE LAST
