TV3 gang meet icon Clooney at Debbie's Lake Como wedding
Xpose producer Debbie O'Donnell and her new hubby Johnny Carroll were in fine company they walked down the aisle in Italy last weekend, as George Clooney was in town.
The Diary can reveal how several of the high-profile guests from TV3 who attended the glitzy ceremony in Lake Como on Saturday afternoon had the opportunity to rub shoulders with the Hollywood icon.
The Ocean's Eleven star and his long-term girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis were spotted relaxing on the multimillionaire's luxurious yacht, having flown in from Milan on Friday.
The couple had spent the week celebrating Italian actress and model Elisabetta's 32nd birthday and were said to be in fine form as they mingled with many of our best known Irish personalities that evening in the exclusive holiday resort.
Xpose star Lisa Cannon, who jetted home from Lake Como on Sunday night alongside her co-stars Karen Koster, Aisling O'Loughlin and Glenda Gilson, explained how she was left disappointed when she missed out on an opportunity to meet the iconic star.
"Everyone was very excited as George was in town at the same time and several of the wedding guests spotted him around the place or were talking to him," Lisa told the Diary.
"Unfortunately myself and my boyfriend missed out on seeing him as we flew into Italy late on Friday. We had been in France all week, where we attended another friend's wedding so we were only in Lake Como for a couple of days.
"We had a really fantastic time, though. It was so nice being away in such a beautiful setting with everyone from work and Debbie looked absolutely stunning when she walked down the aisle."
Lisa went on to explain how she thoroughly enjoyed catching up with her former colleague Lorraine Keane, who attended the ceremony alongside her hubby Peter Devlin, after some earlier uncertainty.
Other guests included former TV3 entertainment reporter Sean Munsanje and his other half Chris Doyle, Sybil Mulcahy, Maureen Catterson and a number of the Ireland AM team including Debbie's best pal Alan Hughes, who MCed the reception.
Debbie and her South African husband, who have one son called Marcus, are honeymoon-ing in Tuscany.
And while Lisa admits she loves the romance of attending friends' weddings, she is adamant she and her other half of several years, Sean Reid are nowhere near ready to walk down the aisle just yet.
The showbiz reporter said Tinseltown starlet Eva Mendes, whom she met on the red carpet before jetting off on holidays, was keen to give her some relationship advice.
"Eva was lovely and really really open about her personal life, particularly her relationship with film-maker George Augusto, who she's been dating for more than seven years," Lisa said.
"She was giving out about him a little bit, which I found surprising. She was also asking me about my own relationship and giving me some tips.
"Being quite a feisty woman she believes that sometimes it's good to let a roar at your man and have an argument so that they know their place.
"It was nice to meet a celebrity who was so refreshingly honest about their love life for a change," she added.
