The insider: Electric Picnic announce more acts

Electric Picnic may only be four months away, but organisers are still announcing new acts for the line up.

Mercury Prize and Brit Award-nominated Friendly Fires, one of the world's best known DJs Laurent Garnier, The Fall, Bonobo, Stornoway, Fight Like Apes and Channel One will all be at Stradbally in September.

In addition, Electric Picnic will be offering one local act the opportunity of playing the Cosby Stage.

A Battle of the Bands competition will be held in Portlaoise throughout summer and a series of heats will determine the overall winner.



  • Dublin's elite is gearing up for the Aviva Stadium's official opening on May 14.

The ceremony, featuring a speech by Taoiseach Brian Cowen at 3pm, is taking place to mark the historic day in Irish sport.

Admittance is strictly by invitation only, while tours of the new facilities will be available after the official proceedings.

Guests can expect refreshments on arrival and security is expected to be tight as some of the best-known names in the country step out to mark the occasion.



  • Calling all budding performers -- this is your chance to star in this year's Eurovision's interval act.

Dublin has been chosen as one of 10 cities across Europe to stage the 'flashmob' scene, which will feature in this year's Eurovision -- and our best entertainers looking for their big break will be taking Temple Bar by storm this evening.

Auditions are starting at the Meeting House tonight at 8.30pm, where the cast of Fame: The Musical will be leading dance routines.

The 'flashmob' event will see people across the continent dancing to the same track.



  • Miss Universe Ireland Diana Donnelly stepped out earlier today to remind everyone to play the Lotto this evening.

The stunning model was showing off tonight's Euromillions jackpot, when €75m will be up for grabs, posing by an ATM machine.

Passers-by raised a few eyebrows at seeing the beauty queen at 11am on St Stephen's Green this morning.

Participants are hoping it will be an Irish person who scoops up the multi-million euro jackpot.



  • Up and coming Dublin band The Shoos will be officially launching their second single Distance at a bash in the Odessa tonight.

The four-piece band, who are fresh off the heels of touring with hit US rockers One Republic, are promising a night of entertainment as they gear up for the exclusive party.

Doors open at the Dame Court venue at 8.30pm tonight, and the boys, who count some of the country's top models including Sara Kavanagh and Louise Kavanagh as fans, are expecting a high-profile crowd.
