Good to see US punk rockers Green Day living up to their hard-partying image. The American stars jetted into Dublin this week to perform a sell-out gig at the O2 Arena as they tour their new album, 21st Century Breakdown.

After rocking out fans at the northside venue, the Californian boys headed into town to unwind in style before jetting off to perform at their next gig.

Word reaches us here at the Diary that many of their entourage made the trip into Lillie's Bordello to unwind with a few well-earned bevvies and opted to stay in the club until the small hours.

And judging by the rapturous reception they received from Irish audiences during their Wednesday night performance, there's no fear of them going off the musical radar anytime soon.

  • Fancy taking part in an art exhibition for a good cause? Well here's your chance. Irish charity Operation Smile, which carries out life-changing surgery on victims of facial deformity and is patroned by actress Roma Downey, is hosting a lavish event in the NCAD gallery next week in a bid to drum up extra funds for the organisation. Starting on October 29 and running until October 31, more than 50 prominent artists have donated works to the exhibition. Admission is free and all proceeds will go towards the worthy charity, which helps improve the lives of children in some of the world's poorest countries.
  • Citi Bar on Dame Street will be the venue for a tasty launch featuring a tapas selection with an Irish twist. Invited guests will be beating a path to the southside pub to sample all its latest offerings, which include classic dishes such as bangers and mash, Dublin coddle and Clonakilty pork. As well as chomping down on complementary nibbles at the October 28 bash, attendees will also be able to become a barman for the night and pour their own pint of creamy Guinness.
  • Powers Gold Label was the only tipple to be seen with last night at an invite-only bash to mark the launch of a new brand of booze.
  • The distillery has teamed up with Kehoes of South Anne Street in a unique collaboration, with the initiative unveiled by John Clement Ryan, a descendant of the founder of the Powers Distillery, John Power.

Given that he claims to be a true whiskey aficionado and the seventh generation to following his family's business, he is definitely one man who knows his tipples.
