Tenor Paul hits right note as he pops question
TENOR Paul Byrom is singing for joy after getting engaged to his long-term girlfriend Dominique Coulter (26).
The Diary can reveal how the chart-topping star got down on bended knee over the weekend and popped the question.
Paul (31) and the daughter of renowned composer Phil Coulter have been dating for the past four years -- and even moved over to America together in 2010.
"We are both on cloud nine. I asked her dad for permission during a trip to Ireland last April," he said. "I'm the happiest man alive right now, bar none. After a beautiful weekend in Newport, I'm delighted to be heading home with my new fiancee Dominique."
He plucked up the courage to ask his shocked girlfriend during a visit to the picturesque St Mary's Church in Newport, Rhode Island, where JFK married Jackie.
The pair have been living together in Sunnyside in New York since he moved over there full-time after landing a solo record deal. He spent four years performing Stateside with classical group Celtic Thunder, which scored a string of number one hits in America alongside a sell-out tour.
Paul and Dominique originally met through her dad, who worked with the singer on a number of projects.
The smitten couple, pictured left, originally maintained a long-distance relationship after he moved over to the States, but Dominique missed him so much, she eventually moved over permanently.
It hasn't been a totally smooth time for the couple though. Last January, the Herald revealed how Paul was forced to go to the police after receiving anti-Irish abuse. But he said that the majority of people have welcomed in the couple with open arms.
