Soap star's real life heartache

The actor who plays Fair City's Leo Dowling has spoken of his heartbreaking research into the plight of missing persons in Ireland.

Dave Duffy visited with the Missing Persons in Ireland organisation during the gripping storyline which saw his wife Lana -- played by Tatiana Ouliankina -- disappear.

And the Dublin actor told the Herald how his research also led him to believe that there may be a serial killer out there.

"I actually went down to the Missing Persons in Ireland organisation and it was absolutely heart-breaking.

"I was absolutely astonished by the emotional turmoil people are suffering," he added.

Visibly moved by the experience, the seasoned actor said: "I was very upset to see the families and to learn what they go through. It's terrifying how many people are still missing in Ireland. It would make you wonder if there's a serial killer on the loose or something."

Dave's character Leo is set for a gripping few weeks as his troubles continue to escalate.

Viewers of the Carrigstown soap will tonight witness a distraught Leo turn up at the garda station, prepared to tell them everything he knows about his wife Lana's disappearance.

But as panic kicks in, the devastated character chickens out and walks away a broken man.

Earlier this week Leo paid notorious criminal Mick to bring him to her grave and is left reeling by the sight of her decomposed body.

In reality, Dave is still in touch with Russian actress Tatiana.
