Rory denies he's getting engaged as ring sparks Caroline wedding rumours

rock: Golf star shrugs off reports

FEMALE fans of Rory McIlroy can breathe easy... the multi-millionaire golfer is NOT spoken for just yet.

His girlfriend, Danish tennis star Caroline Wozniacki, fuelled rumours that she had become engaged to the world's best golfer when she arrived in Australia yesterday sporting an extra large gem on her left ring finger.

McIlroy (23) has accompanied Caroline to Brisbane for her first event of the 2013 season, the Brisbane International, which starts tomorrow.

She will then play in Sydney before the year's opening grand slam in Melbourne, the Australian Open, from January 14 to 27.

But the fact that the 22-year-old Dane was wearing jewels on her "marriage" finger sent the rumour mill into overdrive once again.

Wozniacki denied last month she was engaged to McIlroy (23), although the pair spent Christmas together and recently bought a six-bedroom house next to a golf course in Miami.

However, a statement released in Dublin last night, by Joanne Byrne of Presence PR said: "On behalf of Rory McIlroy I would like to confirm that he has NOT become engaged to Caroline Wozniacki as originally reported in the Australian press."

"Rory is in Australia to support Caroline before he heads in January to Abu Dhabi," the statement ended.

Caroline was wearing the gem-encrusted ring alongside a thinner ring on her left hand when she arrived at Brisbane International Airport and again when she went to the Queensland Tennis Centre for practice sessions. She looked chic but casual in her bright blue outfit as she headed back to her hotel from the airport, while Rory opted for a pair of checked shorts and a white and pink printed T-shirt.

The Irish golfer proudly watched his girlfriend as she showed off her skills on the court.

Caroline said of Rory at the airport on arrival: "He leaves me alone to just let me do my thing." But McIlroy also spoke about Caroline in a recent interview, crediting his girlfriend's work ethic for helping him get a new perspective on his career.

He said: "Seeing how hard she works and how hard she practises and how dedicated she is, it definitely flipped a switch with me that I could be a little more like that. She's definitely been a great influence on me."

She and McIlroy are among the world's most marketable and high-profile sporting couples. They were featured recently in Forbes magazine's "Top 30 Under 30" list names for the wealthiest and brightest twentysomethings.
