Niall to swap Mullingar for Manhattan to ring in new year

IT looks like Niall Horan will be swapping Mullingar for Manhattan this festive season.

The One Direction star may have been looking forward to a laid-back Christmas in his home county but the 19-year-old superstar may have to cut his holiday plans short.

Rumours are rife that the world's number one boyband of the moment may be part of New Year's Rockin' Eve which will be hosted by US X Factor presenter Ryan Seacrest.

The event is transmitted every year to audiences of around 20 million and the boys are tipped to watch the ball drop in Times Square at the event this New Year's Eve.

The blow out NYE bash is one of the most iconic parties in the world. And as the hottest boy band on the planet, One Direction would be the perfect guests.

Last month Niall said he was looking forward to chilling out in Mullingar this Christmas. He also said he panned on getting 'fat' by stuffing his face with roast turkey and mince pies.

The One Direction star said he couldn't wait to spend the festive season with his dad Bobby, his grandmother Margaret and his newly engaged older brother Greg, who is due to get married in March next year.

"I'll probably go home to Ireland and do the same thing as every year -- drink, eat and sleep a lot," he said. "I'll just chill out, become fat. We always go to the pub on Christmas eve."

But instead of hanging out in Mullingar, Niall will be taking Manhattan by storm.

If the boys do take to the stage, they will be joining some of the biggest names in pop. Justin Bieber will be whipping the crowd into a frenzy while the Black Eyed Peas will treat fans to some of their most iconic hits.

And, of course, this year's New Year's Rockin' Eve wouldn't be complete without an appearance from internet sensation PSY. The Korean singer will be encouraging New York revellers to join him when he performs his trademark dance routine.

Singer Taylor Swift (22) -- who has been dating 1D star Harry Styles -- will also star.
