Distraught Girls Aloud star Nadine Coyle has hit back at accusations that her lover is a violent thug.
The devastated Irish singer insists boyfriend Jason Bell is "the most compassionate and loving person I have ever met".
Bell was branded a violent yob in divorce papers filed by ex-wife Kimberly Bell who claimed Jason had assaulted two men and had to pay costly settlements to them.
Kimberly said the sportsman left her after insisting she quit her job as a teacher so she could spend more time with him.
Nadine, who has told friends that Jason is the love of her life, broke her silence on the bitter divorce row. "He is a very gentle loving person, he doesn't have a bad bone in his body.
"I can only say the way he has treated me, he has been as a perfect gentleman."
Nadine and the ex-New York giants defensive player have been dating for three months.
According to the papers filed by Kimberly, one of Bell's fights was with a fellow team mate, which resulted in a settlement of $75,000, while in the other he assaulted a man in a bar.
A friend said Nadine and Jason had talked about the claims.
"Jason was very upfront and honest about it right from the start and said he regretted having got caught up in trouble, but he also said there were two sides to every story. Nadine was a bit taken aback but she isn't judging Jason on his past."
Jason has denied asking his wife to move to New York.
Meanwhile, he and Nadine have holidayed in Miami and are thinking of moving in together in LA after Girls Aloud's next tour.
