MTV's Laura off Down Under in search for a star
HER own blossoming TV career was launched after taking part in reality show Pick Me MTV in 2008 -- and now MTV's Laura Whitmore is to make another aspiring presenter's dreams come true.
The Herald can reveal how the Bray- born star has beaten off stiff competition from colleagues at MTV's London studios to land a gig hosting New Zealand's version of the show.
Laura (25) will head to Auckland next week to begin filming the show.
"Basically the show is the exact same format as the British one. They're going to have a panel of celebrity and international judges from around the world and they've asked Laura to be one of them," said a close friend.
"She's the winner of the first ever Pick Me MTV show, has been through the whole process herself, and has gone on to build a successful career out of it.
"They want her to mentor the contestants and give them advice to prepare them for what's ahead of them if they do win," they added.
MTV has whittled down hundreds of aspiring contestants to just 50.
Laura and her fellow celebrity judges will be putting the finalists through their paces for a six-part series, which begins on MTV New Zealand later this month.
The winner receives a paid contract with MTV as well the chance to attend the MTV European Music Awards show in Madrid, report for MTV news in Sydney, and host MTV news in New Zealand
Earlier this week, Laura took centre stage when she hosted an MTV concert in Glasgow that was broadcast in 161 countries.
