This is D'Unbelievables star Jon Kenny in his latest surprise role -- in the TV soap Fair City.

The Limerick comedian will pop up in the drama as showband singer Crazy Chester Legend, an old acquaintance of Paul.

And the character is certainly set to make a splash, as by the end of his first week he winds up in a steamy Jacuzzi with Paul and Yvonne.

Speaking about the role, which he recently finished shooting, Jon said: "I was basically brought in for a stint, but I think I'm gone out of it now because they haven't called me since.

"I was sent off to Cork and everyone knows that if you're sent off to Cork in Fair City then you don't come back.

"They approached me to do a few episodes and it suited me at the time.

"I never thought I would do anything like it but it was really enjoyable.

"I didn't find it too difficult a change because the character I was playing wasn't too far from being a lunatic. He is a very complex and stupid character so it was great fun to play."

Crazy Chester will first be introduced to viewers on September 8, when he shows up at the garage to have his van fixed.

"He is an ex-musician and I used to play a little back in the day, so I had a little experience with that," said Jon. "Basically his business has closed up because of the recession so he decides to come back to Carrigstown to make a go of things again with his music and do a few gigs."

Demanding

The character gets hired by Louie to play the Centenary celebrations but when Paul returns his van to him, Chester reveals he has no money to pay the service bill and Paul decides to attend Chester's next gig to collect the €800 owed.

Jon said he would consider appearing on the popular soap again in the future.

"Never say never because it was great fun. They are a great bunch to work with and I know a few of them from over the years, but I don't know how they do it because they work very hard," he said.

"They have quite a demanding schedule and the hours are very long."
