Louis must get credit for your generosity, Damien...

IN A world full of tortured artistes, Damien Rice (above with Salma Hayek at the Golden Globes) always struck me as the most moody and pained of all, and exactly the kind of musician who would despise manufactured pop bands, and shows such as the X Factor.

But now come reports that Rice has apparently spent nearly $500k at a charity auction in aid of Haitian earthquake victims on a guitar owned by Bono, money that he apparently received as royalties for his song Cannonball being used by the winners of last year's X Factor.

Who do the victims of Haiti ultimately have to thank for this alleged windfall? Louis Walsh, of course. A fact which, when Rice thinks about it, will probably make him miserable for another 20 years...
