Kathryn tells of sadness over split

RTE's Kathryn Thomas has opened up about the break-up of her five-year relationship from Enda Waters, saying it was "horrendous to go through".

The couple quietly split after deciding that their relationship was no longer working.

Kathryn (34) has explained how she found it hard after Enda (38) moved out of their home in Kilmainham.

"It was good to have my own time to get my head around it and deal with it because it's not called a break-up for nothing.

"The good thing is, we are still good friends, which is great," she said.

"There is always going to be a huge sadness for a while. When you spend five and a half years with somebody, it's a long time and it's an adjustment. I think I'm still adjusting."

But the Voice of Ireland presenter, who regularly fills in for John Murray on his RTE Radio 1 show, said she managed to get through it thanks to the support of family and friends along with "the odd bottle of wine".

"There's always someone in a worse situation -- not that I'm making light of it or anything like that. It was a very difficult thing to go through but we were lucky that we were able to go through it privately and that we are still friends," she continued.

She also admits to Irish Tatler that "nobody wants to be single at 34" and that most of her friends are now married with kids, but she has had a very different life to them.

The Beatles started a revolution back in the USSR

If ever a band has been well served by the literary world it's The Beatles. Practically every aspect of that revolutionary body of work has been dealt with in book form... or so one would have thought. From Hunter Davies' The Beatles, through Philip Norman's Shout, Bob Spitz's humongously detailed history and Ian McDonald's brilliant Revolution in the Head, which offered a musical and contextual analysis of every song they ever recorded, surely there's nothing left of interest to diehard fans of the Fabs. Well, think again.
