Jedward reveal bullying hell

THEY may be super successful pop stars now, but Jedward have revealed the bullying agony that they endured in their school years.

The Lucan twins, who are often criticised for their lack of obvious talent, have been at the centre of cruel jibes for several years -- but have earned a legion of famous fans along the way, including golfer Padraig Harrington.

Even during their stint on The X Factor, they were subjected to a hate campaign by enraged viewers, but said that the relentless bullying they experienced earlier in life prepared them for any negativity that comes their way.

"We know a lot of people hate us," John said. "I get so upset by it I can't sleep. It goes round and round in my head.

"We've had a gang come up to us in the street, saying 'there's those twins' and they came after us. We had to run.

"I think it was because we stuck out a lot. We never followed the crowd. That's why people picked on us. There were a lot of mean people around us at school."

But the boys stuck to their unique ways, determined not to let anyone change them.

"We were just trying to live our dream. We always did things other people never did."

The boys stepped out at a star-studded event at Hamleys department store in Dundrum, to celebrate the store's 250th anniversary.

Golfer Harrington brought along his young sons Patrick and Ciaran to ensure they had a night to remember.

"Patrick's a big fan of Jedward -- he was very keen to meet them," Padraig explained. "Ciaran is a bit too young to understand."

Among those who were in attendance were 10 lucky families, who won Golden Tickets by entering a competition with the Herald.
