Simon Cowell called an emergency meeting with John and Edward Grimes telling them to "keep their heads down" until the backlash from the results show blows over.

The panel's harshest judge has come under fire after he saved the twins in a shock move on Sunday night's episode.

A set insider revealed: "Simon is very shocked by the backlash he is getting from the public. He didn't expect this.

"He's talked with John and Edward and told them to keep their heads down. It seems everyone has turned against them. He told them to keep quiet and let the whole thing blow over until this weekend. He is worried they will definitely get voted off this weekend because of the outrage."

Guilty

Meanwhile, axed contestant Lucie Jones (18) has defended the pair's right to be in the competition.

The boys admitted they felt guilty over beating Lucie, but the singer defended their right to be there, even though she was "gutted" at the loss.

"More people wanted to see them next week than wanted to see me, and that's fine and they should not feel guilty because they deserve to be there."

In spite of the shock decision, Lucie is still optimistic that she will be able to pursue a singing career -- and her grandmother Jean Davies (74) has pledged to vote for the twins from now on.
