I'm so excited to have a date with Obama, says Rose winner Tara
THE Rose of Tralee has revealed how she has a big date for 2012 -- with US President Barack Obama, no less.
Tara Talbot (28) is gearing up to meet one of the most famous men on the planet as she continues enjoying her year-long reign.
"I'm going on loads of overseas trips next year and I'm heading over to Washington for St Patrick's Day to meet Barack Obama, so that's going to be really exciting. I'm already wondering what to wear," she said.
The stunning beauty, whose mum Carmencita is Filipino and whose dad Ronnie is from Dublin, has just spent Christmas away from her native Queensland as she enjoys a traditional Irish yuletide.
But she certainly wasn't lacking for company -- she spent the big day with her other half Fionan Henry at his family's home in Rathfarnham.
She has been dating the sports therapist, who used to be a model, for more than three years after meeting him in Dublin before he flew back to Australia with her.
The Rose explained how she has "loads of family" in Dublin so while she missed having Christmas in the Australian sun, she said they had a great time. "It's always hard to be away from home for Christmas but we're on Skype a lot and that makes you feel a bit closer to your family," she explained.
And things are obviously going swimmingly between Tara and Fionan, judging by her comments. "He's very supportive of me, he's absolutely wonderful so I'm very lucky. He's always driving me around to events and holding my bag while I do photographs, he's just great," she said.
"The past six months have been fantastic. I've been doing lots of photoshoots and travelling around to various places like India with the Hope Foundation. I've literally been on the go the whole time.
"I've met so many people and been to some great events. I'm going to be in Ireland until May now, which is when the next Rose of Tralee selections start in Australia."
She celebrated turning 28 on New Year's Eve and revealed how she headed west for a raucous reunion with some of her Rose of Tralee pals.
