How I overheard 'pal' Twink's two-hour four-letter rant about me to cast -- Linda
TOP performer Linda Martin has opened up for the first time about the "hurtful" circumstances behind her rift with former pal Twink.
The flame-haired panto queen has revealed what really caused the tension with her fellow performer -- and why she doesn't think they'll ever talk again after 30 years of friendship.
As first revealed in the Herald, the pair stopped speaking after an incident in Castlebar, Co Mayo, while they were touring with Menopause The Musical.
Linda has spoken about how hurt she was after overhearing Twink, whose real name is Adele King, bitching about her with fellow cast members in her adjacent hotel suite after a performance.
"I overheard a two-hour character assassination and most of the words began with 'c' and had four letters in them," she said.
"I'm a very loyal person and if you're friends with somebody for 30 years, you're working with them, you're smiling with them, you're having conversation with them. And then suddenly you find out what's going on behind the scenes, it was so hurtful and honest to God, I really can't tell you how deeply that went. It was horrible."
The emotional Eurovision winner added how she was hit for six after hearing the comments from someone she considered a friend.
"I know we all make comments about everybody. But I think if you have a friend, your friend should be your friend. And the hurt, it was so unnecessary, there was no reason for it to have happened," she explained.
"As I said to her so many times over the years, I have so much admiration for her wonderful talent. But to do that to anybody, especially me, it's one of the worst experiences I have ever had.
"When I was working in pantomime or You're A Star or the Lyrics Board or whatever, there isn't one person who would say 'Linda's causing problems' or 'Linda's difficult to work with'."
When she came face-to-face with Twink in the theatre the following day, she said there was no apology given. "She said she was only sorry she didn't say it to my face and I walked away."
Twink has now been replaced in the smash hit production by Sue Hodge, British star of 'Allo 'Allo, and Linda confirmed the pair get on like a house on fire.
"She's really nice, really down to earth and has lots of stories. We had a girls' night out last night and it ended up fairly late with quite a lot of bottles involved in it. We just went out and we had a great laugh."
Twink and her agent declined to comment on the spat when contacted by the Herald.
