'Giddy' Ray to take 3 weeks off after wedding
presenter Ray D'arcy will take three weeks off after his wedding.
The Today FM radio host will exchange vows with his partner and co-worker Jenny Kelly in a humanist ceremony in Co Meath tomorrow.
They will then embark on an extended holiday abroad.
"Ray is giddy today ... last day in work before he marries his burd," show presenter Mairead Farrell joked yesterday.
New Ireland AM presenter Anton Savage will take the reins on the show, alongside Ray's radio pal Mairead.
"Ray will be on honeymoon for three weeks, but he is keeping it a tight secret as to where he is going," a source told the Herald.
Anton says he is glad that Ray's absence is occurring just before he commences his new slot on Ireland AM on September 30.
The 36-year-old will wake up the nation with the latest news and current affairs issues as he fronts the 7am TV breakfast show.
"It is do-able to do both – I timed it that I could make it up to Ballymount and be back by 8.30, but it could kill me," he laughed.
"I will miss the wedding so I will have to wish Ray and Jenny the best from afar."
One Today FM star who will be at the wedding is glamorous mum Mairead, with radio pals Ian Dempsey and Matt Cooper also expected to join Ray on his big day.
Ray and Jenny will tie the knot at the up-market Tankardstown House in Slane.
The couple – who have two children, Kate and Tom – met in 2005 on Ray's radio show where Kelly worked as producer and co-presenter.
The 48-year-old revealed on air that he hasn't written his speech yet.
He was planning on the words flowing freely from his head, but has admitted that he might need to write down a few bullet points.
The speeches will take place before dinner, so everyone can relax and enjoy the rest of the celebration.
He also revealed that Jenny will be making a speech after him.
"I wonder is that a good idea?" he joked.
