Pop sensation Cheryl Cole has hit back at speculation that her marriage is in crisis.

The Girls Aloud star sparked rumours about the state of her marriage when she chose not to wear her wedding ring in the last two episodes of The X Factor.

The fashionista is known to meticulously decide her outfits for the show, from the colour of her nail varnish right down to the choice of designer shoes.

However, she has defended the decision not to wear the sparkler by saying it simply did not match her outfits on Saturday and Sunday.

The €180,000 ring footballer Ashley Cole gave her only reappeared in public in September last year, after nine months in her drawer.

Nearly two years ago, young British woman Aimee Walton claimed she had slept with Ashley after a drunken night out.

After a long and very public struggle with allegations of infidelity, the Geordie singer decided to stay in the marriage and the couple have since been working hard on maintaining their relationship.

In a bid to win back her affection, Ashley immediately began lavishing her with extravagant gifts, including the famous ring. Since she joined The X Factor judging panel, he has sent her a bouquet of flowers before every show.

However, both of their hectic work schedules have prevented them from spending much time together. He has only been seen at two X Factor shows, and the singer is rarely spotted at his games.

In spite of the controversy surrounding Cheryl's personal life, her professional life is thriving.

Since the allegations against Ashley were made, she has made two X Factors series, been on tour with Girls Aloud, flown back and forth to LA to record her solo single and climbed Kilimanjaro for charity.

Her first solo single, Fight For This Love, which debuted on The X Factor reached the number one spot on the British charts last week.

Simon Cowell is keen to launch Cheryl's career in America, provided he can sort out problems with her visa, caused by her 2003 conviction for assaulting a female nightclub attendant.
