TV chef Donal Skehan is in South East Asia getting Thai inspiration for his next book.

The RTE star has just completed his third book, which will be out on May 10, and he is already expanding his culinary repertoire by travelling to Thailand and Vietnam.

The talented Dubliner has been sharing his adventures abroad with fans by posting photos of the meals he has been trying, and will no doubt be able to reproduce. "So much inspiration! Afraid people will be sick of hearing about Asian food on my return," the chef said.

A source confirmed to the Herald that Donal would be filming his next season of Kitchen Hero this spring.

"His viewership keeps on growing and growing -- he's been such a welcome addition to TV cooking that he will be back on (Irish) screens by this summer," a source said.

"Donal is very likeable, he doesn't condescend to viewers and he makes sure that his cooking is accessible to everyone, that's why he's so popular.

"There are no plans currently for him to film part of the show abroad like he did in the Christmas special where he went to Sweden, but it's not been ruled out either," the insider added.

Within less than a year, Donal Skehan has become the second most popular Irish TV chef on RTE after well-loved Navan man Neven Maguire.

His second series racked up an average of 289,000 viewers.
