Beyonce to sing as Obama is sworn in

US President Barack Obama has chosen superstar Beyonce to sing The Star Spangled Banner at his re-inauguration.

Four years ago the honour went to a US Navy chorus, but it appears the president is looking for some extra glamour this time around.

The January 21 event will be a warm-up for the Single Ladies singer, who will also perform at next month's Super Bowl half-time show.

Beyonce is good friends with the Obamas. She has helped Michelle Obama's Let's Move! initiative against childhood obesity.

And along with her husband, rap star Jay-Z, she hosted an Obama re-election campaign fundraiser that reportedly raised $4m.

The Beatles started a revolution back in the USSR

If ever a band has been well served by the literary world it's The Beatles. Practically every aspect of that revolutionary body of work has been dealt with in book form... or so one would have thought. From Hunter Davies' The Beatles, through Philip Norman's Shout, Bob Spitz's humongously detailed history and Ian McDonald's brilliant Revolution in the Head, which offered a musical and contextual analysis of every song they ever recorded, surely there's nothing left of interest to diehard fans of the Fabs. Well, think again.
