A-ha! – Ray gets a surprise stag night
TODAY FM star Ray D'Arcy has revealed how he spent his stag night watching Alan Partridge at the cinema with friends.
The 48-year-old, who weds partner Jenny Kelly this Saturday, revealed he had originally ruled out any boozy bender, but ended up being surprised by friends on the night.
The radio star had started the day accompanying groomsman Colm to have his suit fitted. Later they arranged to meet up with his best man and catch a screening of movie Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa.
"That was the plan because I didn't want a stag. And so we arrived, and got the fitting, and then we walked out, then I spotted a couple of lads that I sort of knew.
"And I thought, 'That's a coincidence, fancy meeting you here.' And then there were another couple and before you knew it there were 10 or a dozen," said D'Arcy.
The Kildare man admitted watching Alan Partridge might seem a bit "odd"on a stag night.
"I know it's an odd thing to do on a stag, but it suited me which was sort of funny, because it's all about radio. It was topical and apt," he added.
After the cinema the group headed to a pub with the radio star admitting the night was "the latest I've been out for a long time"
Some of Today FM's biggest names are due to join Ray and Jenny when they tie the knot at a secret location. The pair met in 2005 on D'Arcy's radio programme where Kelly worked as producer and co-presenter.
Ray has joked their long-term relationship has seen them encounter many of the tribulations mentioned in the wedding vows they will take.
"We have two children, we have a house and a dog. We have been through a lot of the stuff you mention in the vows already," he said.
