2fm's Louise to ditch Sunday radio slot
She went down a storm when she filled in for Ryan Tubridy and is one of the few female voices on Irish airwaves, but DJ Louise McSharry will be cutting back her radio slots.
The 30-year-old 2fm star has been double-jobbing since March and says the combination of a full-time job and early-morning starts are a killer.
"I've been working a seven-day week since March. Everyone has been extremely supportive, but it's very tough especially because the radio show is such an early start. I'm up at 5.45am on the weekends and that can be really draining."
Louise says she will have to ditch the Sunday slot so she can have time for R&R over the weekend.
Despite hosting her own show, Louise said she was aware many people, both in and outside RTE, questioned the decision to have her fill in for Ryan Tubridy when he went on holiday.
"I knew I could do it, but also knew others in and out of RTE perhaps weren't so sure I was capable of it.
"I was determined to prove myself, so I was delighted it went well."
Louise says she'd love to do move away from music and spend more time chatting with callers.
"I absolutely loved covering for Ryan," she explains. "It was a great time.
"I would like to do more talk-based shows; when you're playing so much music there isn't great scope to chat," she said.
The broadcaster lives in Dublin with her boyfriend of four years Gordan Spierin, who works on popular soap Fair City.
The two didn't meet on the RTE lot, but on Ibiza. "We were both on holiday and knew a lot of the same people so that's how we first properly met."
Louise grew up in Chicago but says Ireland is definitely home.
"I don't see myself as American at all really – I did Irish dancing and spent my summers here."
