Air France has cancelled up to 40% of its long-distance flights because of a strike by pilots and other personnel over their right to hold unannounced walkouts.

The airline is recommending that passengers reschedule any flights planned before Friday, when the strike is expected to end.

As the strike entered its third day, Air France said it expected to run 60% of long-haul flights and 70% of medium and short-range flights.

The Paris airport authority said there were a few last-minute cancellations on Wednesday in addition to those announced the previous night.

The striking workers are protesting against a draft law that would require air transport workers to give 48 hours notice before striking.
