Dempsey defends handling of Dublin Airport problems
Transport Minister Noel Dempsey has defended the way the Irish Aviation Authority has dealt with the collapse of the radar system at Dublin Airport yesterday.
Passengers are still facing disruption today as a result of the problem, with the airport only operating at 70% capacity.
Speaking during a Dail debate on the matter, Mr Dempsey said it may take another 24 to 48 hours to restore full service at the airport.
He said there had been a number of problems with the system's software over the past few weeks and has admitted that information should have been more forthcoming to passengers.
He also said a full back-up radar system would cost a minimum of ?115m.
