A man is being questioned over a gangland-style murder outside a pub.

David Thomas was shot dead as he smoked a cigarette outside the Drake Inn on Main Street, Finglas.

Gardai have arrested a man in his 20s in connection with the incident.

Mr Thomas, 43, from Cloonlara Crescent, was shot in the head a number of times just before 8.30pm on October 9.

The gunman fled the scene on foot before jumping into a dark blue Opel Corsa, which was later found burnt out.

Ten years ago, Mr Thomas was acquitted of the murder of Eamon O'Reilly, who was shot dead in 1998.

He was later given a suspended sentence for shooting two gardai four days after the killing.

Detectives are investigating the possibility that the murder was in revenge for the killing of Mr O'Reilly, whose associates have joined a major crime gang.
